The Challenge

A global wireless manufacturer headquartered in the USA with 800 employees worldwide and going through early growth stage had requirements to build a strong global sales team who would specialize in selling DAS, RF Antennas, Cables and other RF Passive components. The company wanted to expand into new regions where they had no or little business. The remit was to hire a Managing Director for the Middle East and Africa Region to be based in the UAE. This was a Middle East & Africa search.

The Solution

Utilising a network which has taken 20 years’ to build up across the Telecoms sector our executive search team mapped the entire Middle East and Africa Region. Wethen drew up a report of all our clients’ direct competitors which included manufacturers, systems integrators and distributors. From that report we then targeted the relevant people within each organisation to gather initial interest by sending them a teaser without divulging who our end client was.

Out of thirty-three candidates approached, we shortlisted the ten strongest candidates and re-interviewed everyone again informing them of who our client was and in general having a move in-depth conversation about their success stories, motivations to move or not move and overall personality assessing whether they would fit into a start-up environment. We then carried out background checks and references/cross-referencing with people within the industry.

Once we finalized the second-round interviews and background checks we then shortlisted the top five candidates whom we submitted to the client. From receiving the initial search assignment to shortlisting the top five candidates took Outsourcing Talent ten days.

Success

All five candidates were interviewed over the phone and all came across strong. All five candidates had three more follow-up calls with other senior members of the company who then reported back. Within two weeks our client flew over from the USA to meet with three of the five interviewed candidates in the UAE whom they thought were perfect. Out of the interviews two candidates were identified as being exactly what our client was seeking and they would be happy to offer either of them. Our client ended up offering the first candidate who accepted.

Due to the success of this placement our client then passed more requirements our way and we have placed all assignments given to date.
